The Freestore Foodbank and the Cincinnati Bengals are teaming up again for the annual Meijer Canned Food Drive. Volunteers will collect non-perishable food and monetary donations at each entrance to Paul Brown Stadium on Sunday prior to the Bengals home game against the Cleveland Browns.
Meijer has announced it will donate $1 (up to $10,000) to the Freestore Foodbank for every pound of food donated during the canned food drive.
"We hear each year from fans that they left their canned goods on the kitchen counter in a rush to get to the game," said Freestore Foodbank President and CEO Kurt Reiber. "We want Bengals Nation to know that a $5 donation is just as powerful and will help us provide 15 meals to families in need."
This marks the 27th year that the Bengals have hosted the canned food drive for the Freestore Foodbank. Last year, Bengals fans made enough food and monetary donations to provide nearly 73,000 meals to help feed children and families in our hometown.
Coach Marvin Lewis will announce results from this year's food drive at his weekly press conference.
