Two people were killed in a head-on collision between a semi-truck and a Rumpke truck Tuesday morning in Brown County.
It happened around 10:15 a.m. near the intersection of U.S. 68 and Greenbush Road, located about five miles north of Mt. Orab.
The preliminary investigation revealed a Rumpke tire recycling truck went left of center on U.S. 68 and hit a tractor trailer head-on. The semi-truck was carrying a small load of furniture.
Both drivers died in the crash.
Rumpke has identified their driver as Richard Boles of Highland Heights, Ky. Boles joined Rumpke in 2004.
"He was a great member of the Rumpke team. He had a positive personality and was enjoyable to be around. He was a friend and colleague to many and will be greatly missed," said Jeff Rumpke, vice president.
The driver of the semi-truck has yet to be identified.
"We've lost a member of Rumpke team. Words cannot express the sorrow we are feeling at this moment. Our hearts and our prayers go out to these drivers and their families," said Mike Puckett, safety director at Rumpke. "We are going to do everything we can to work closely with investigators to determine exactly what happened."
Rumpke officials, the Ohio State Highway Patrol and Mt. Orab Police are continuing to investigate the accident. The area of U.S. 68 surrounding the crash was expected to remain closed for approximately four to five hours.
