TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -
Toledo Police say an armed robber shot the dog of the man he tried to rob while fleeing the scene.
Police say the suspect broke into a home in the 1800 block of Fernwood Avenue around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. The home owner told police the man pointed a handgun at him and demanded cash, before chasing him out the back door while firing at him.
The homeowner then chased the suspect back through the house onto the street. Once on the street, the suspect fired 7 shots, grazing a bystander in the chest.
The homeowner's dog was hit with one shot at some point during the ordeal.
The human victim, Jason Phillips, was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries. The victim's dog, a German Sheppard, was taken to a veterinarian for treatment. It is unclear how badly the dog was hurt.
