(WMC-TV) - The St. Louis Cardinals were in Memphis Tuesday to talk about their progressing deal with the city that could rescue the Memphis Redbirds from their financial troubles.

In the possible agreement, the St. Louis Cardinals would buy the Redbirds and the City of Memphis would buy AutoZone Park. The new changes will includes additional features like bars in the outfield, restaurant and much more.

Cardinals General Manager John Mozeliak says their goal was finding a team with stability.

"Obviously for us right now ... Finding a team with stability ... You think about the relationship we've had here in Memphis over the last decade, now knowing that we can secure that for many more years is vitally important," said Mozeliak. "When you think about having your players play in a ball park like this, making that transition to St. Louis becomes much more seamless."

It is not a done deal yet, but Mayor A C Wharton thinks it will be.

"You've got issues such as the precise terms of the lease, massive million dollar financing bonds involved in it," said Wharton. "I guess it's a good time, because things have bottomed out so to speak, and the only way now is up. That's why we're getting in right now."

Some fans give the potential acquisition rave reviews.

"I love it. I think it's great for the city of Memphis. I think it's gonna be awesome," said Redbirds fan Gavin Fox.

The agreement calls for the parties to close the transaction by December 31 this year.
