HARDIN COUNTY, TN -
(WMC-TV) – A former deputy clerk was arrested this week, accused of stealing money from the Hardin County Circuit Court Clerk's Office.
Amber Renee Terry, 32, was indicted on one count of theft of property over $10,000 and one count of official misconduct. She was indicted Monday by the Hardin County grand jury.
During a routine county audit in April 2013, it was discovered that money was missing from the circuit court clerk's office. Terry told auditors that she was robbed twice in 2012 while taking deposits to the bank. She said she never reported the robberies.
An investigation by TBI was launched into the missing money. Terry eventually admitted to fabricating her statement about the robberies. She admitted to taking between $13,500 and $14,000 from the clerk's office during the time she was employed.
Terry surrendered and was booked into Hardin County Jail on a $5,000 bond.
