LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Police are investigating a deadly shooting at a grocery store after a man was shot on the way to his car after getting off work, according to St. Matthews Police.
The shooting happened at a Louisville Kroger on N. Hubbards Lane in St. Matthews around 10 p.m. Saturday. Kroger is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible.
The victim, identified as Jack Combs, 34, was an employee at the Kroger location in the Woodlawn Center.
According to Public Information Officer Dennis McDonald, Jack Combs man was shot in the chest as he walked to his car, which was parked behind the store.
Another employee found Combs after he made it around to the front of the store and collapsed.
"He was either at or approaching his car when he was fatally shot. He tried to make his way back into the business and collapsed in front of the business just prior to getting inside the doors," Officer McDonald said.
Emergency personnel rushed Combs to Baptist Hospital East where he was pronounced dead.
In a statement, Kroger spokesperson Tim McGurk said, "The Kroger team is heartbroken this morning as we learn of the loss of Jack Combs. We are reaching out to his family now to see how we can support them during this most difficult time. The Kroger security personnel are working closely with the detectives of the St. Matthew's Police Department in an effort to find those responsible."

"If anyone heard anything. If they saw anything - anything suspicious around 10 o'clock last night here in the parking lot or any of the adjacent streets for the matter like N. Hubbards Lane or Westport Road contact us and get that information to us," Officer McDonald said.
Police did not release a motive for the crime.
