LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Police say they have "several solid leads" but no arrests in the Saturday night murder of a Kroger employee outside the St. Matthews store where he worked.
Jack Combs, 34, was a well-liked employee with no history of run-ins with authorities, according to public information officer Dennis McDonald with the St. Matthews Police Department during a Monday news conference.
Contrary to earlier reports, McDonald said Combs was shot only once in the upper chest -- not four times -- outside the Hubbards Lane Kroger as Combs walked to his car behind the store around 10 p.m. on Saturday. Another employee found Combs in front of the store where he had collapsed. Combs was rushed to Baptist Hospital East where he was pronounced dead.
McDonald said store surveillance video had been "helpful" to the investigation, but he didn't say how, and he did not elaborate on the leads police were following.
