LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - One hundred turkeys, desserts, rolls, cans of green beans and more were given to less fortunate families for Thanksgiving.
Officers in the Louisville Metro Police Department's First Division met early Tuesday morning to divide the food and take it to the families recommended.
"We went to the police officers, the men and women of the First Division, the people ride the beats every single day and night," said Sgt. William Hibbs, "and we asked them for their input this year."
Officers spit off in pairs and delivered five bags of food to five different homes at a time. Marchelle Wright is raising her three grandchildren and said they food is a big help this year.
"It means a lot since I'm raising three grandchildren since I don't have very much help from anyone," Wright said. "It means a whole lot. It's a meal on the table."
Kentucky Harvest and Sysco donated helped gather the food.
"We get a lot of runs for service in the First Division," Hibbs said, "and they stay busy quite a bit so this is a chance we get to come out and I guess affect people in a positive way. "
