'Jingle Bell Bikes' hopes to give 5,000 bicycles to children for Christmas

MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - Kroger is partnering with the Salvation Army to give bicycles to kids for Christmas.

The goal of the Jingle Bell Bikes program is to deliver 5,000 bicycles to children this holiday season.

Each bike coasts about $40, so the mission will require about $200,000 in donations.

"We're really excited about this because we have an unbelievably generous people in Memphis that help make this a success," said Capt. Barbara Rich, Salvation Army. "It has been going on for 27 years."

To kick off the campaign, Kroger is donating 100 bicycles.
