The Nashville man who was struck and killed while trying to cross Interstate 24 on foot Thursday night has been identified.
Metro police said James Begley, 50, was crossing the westbound lanes near the Shelby Avenue exit around 7 p.m.
A Hendersonville woman driving a Honda sedan swerved to avoid hitting Begley when she said she hit another vehicle while swerving, causing her car to move back toward Begley.
Police said the woman denied hitting Begley, but investigators said evidence at the scene indicated that the Honda did impact Begley.
Begley was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.
Police said there was no indication of alcohol or drug involvement at the scene, and the vehicle struck by the Honda did not stop. It should have damage to the passenger side and may be white in color. Police are unsure if the second vehicle also hit Begley.
The driver of the Honda sedan has not been charged.
The investigation is ongoing, and if you have any information in this case, contact Metro police.
