Glen Allen student released, no charges filed after school lockdown

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) -

Henrico Police have released the Glen Allen High School student who was taken into custody Tuesday after the school was placed on lockdown.

Police were at the high school Wednesday to reassure students and teachers of their safety. The school was placed on lockdown Tuesday while SWAT searched the school for a student who was reportedly "distraught" and may have had a weapon - police later said the student in question was never seen on campus.

Police surrounded a home in a neighborhood near Old Springfield Road and Argonne Court and took the 16-year-old student into custody around 1:45 p.m. The school lockdown was lifted shortly after 2 p.m. and students were released on a normal schedule.

Police say they did not find any weapons at the home the student was in; however, they say the student threatened to hurt himself or others at the school, though they did not say how they found out about the threat. The teen was on the phone with a Crisis Intervention Team supervisor when police took him into custody.

The police chief said the teen will not be going back to the high school anytime soon. There are currently no charges at this time.
