Montgomery Police have made an arrest in connection with the shooting Thursday, that left a 7-year-old boy caught in the cross fire. It happened in Gibbs Village East near the intersection of Crossway Street and Hilldale Drive.
Police have charged 23-year-old Marquaries Williams with one count of second degree assault following the shooting incident.
Around 4 p.m. the 7-year-old victim was struck during an exchange of gunfire between the supsect and additional individuals. He is reported to be recovering well.
Officials say this investigation is ongoing and additional arrests are expected.
Williams has been transported to the Montgomery County Detention Facility where he is being held under a $7,500 bond.
Six-year-old resident Michael Cole says he and his relatives were outside playing in the yard when all of a sudden two men started shooting. Michael said the incident makes him sad and he wishes he lived somewhere else.
Another resident, Mike Smith, said people in the area are immune to sounds of gunshots and the violence in their community. In fact, gunshots could be heard during the man's interview with WSFA 12 News.
Smith says neighborhood leaders can't be the only ones speaking out. The entire community has to start talking.
"It's time to fight back. They have to fight back. They have to go down there and talk to the folks downtown themselves man cause we can't keep on doing it for them. These folks act like they are scared to talk," Smith said.
