BARBERTON, OH (WOIO) -

Prosecutors say they will ask for the death penalty in a New Year's Eve homicide case that left one man and his two teenage children dead.

Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan made the announcement Friday.

31-year old Eric D. Hendon and his 22-year old brother Michael D. Hendon, both of Akron, are facing multiple charges that include aggravated murder, attempted murder and aggravated robbery.

The two are accused of entering the home of David Kohler at 329 7th Street NE and fatally shooting the 42-year-old, his 18-year old daughter Ashley Carpenter and 14-year old son, David Kohler-Carpenter.

Kohler's girlfriend, 38-year-old Rhonda Blankenship was also shot but didn't die from her injuries.

"This was a truly senseless crime that has shattered a community," said Prosecutor Walsh. "An entire family, including two children, was killed. The lone survivor of this brutal attack will carry physical and emotional scars for the rest of her life."

If convicted of any count of Aggravated Murder with at least one death specification, the Hendons can be sentenced to death.
