Chesterfield mom and dog die in early morning fire

CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) -

Family and friends are mourning the loss of a Chesterfield mother of three.

Monica Heretick, 50, and her dog, Roxy, were found dead following a house fire Saturday morning.

Fire investigators believe the fire started in the home's kitchen and quickly spread. Heretick and her dog were asleep inside and were found later under a pile of rubble from when the roof collapsed.

Heretick leaves behind three grown daughters, a grandchild and husband. The supportive and loving mom was a staple at her daughters' softball games, says friend Keleigh Blevins.

"She cared about everyone and was very funny," said Blevins. "I don't think it's really sunk in yet. It feels like a dream."

Now, Blevins and her friend Cassidy Toombs are banding together to collect food and clothes for the Hereticks at Anytime Fitness.

"They have to rebuild their whole lives over again," said Toombs. "But they're going to get through it with us in their lives."

You can drop off donations at 12324 Bermuda Crossroads Lane from Monday to Thursday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

They're looking for a women's pants size 14 long, size large shirts and size 9 shoes. They are also looking for children's clothes in size 12 and shoes, size 5 to 6.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
