LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A fire on a Bullitt County hillside resulted in a deadly discovery: the body of an electrocuted man.
According to Lt. Mike Murdoch of the Bullitt County Sheriff's Office, the unidentified man attempted to remove copper wire from a high voltage utility pole and died from apparent electrocution.
"There was a ladder there and the male was on the ground next to it along with bolt cutters," Murdoch said.
When firefighters arrived to extinguish the field fire they observed electrical wires dangling from a nearby pole. While fighting the fire, crews found the man's body. Murdoch said evidence left at the scene suggests there was another person working with the deceased man.
"We also found a duffle bag about 400 feet away next to another utility pole which leads us to believe someone else may have been with him at that time," said Murdoch.
The body was removed from the scene by the Bullitt County Coroner and will be taken to the medical examiner's office in Louisville so an autopsy can be performed. Due to the condition of the body, investigators have not yet been able to identify the suspect.
If anyone saw vehicles or persons in the area of the fire between midnight and 5 a.m., they are asked to contact the Bullitt County Sheriff's Office at (502) 543-2514.
