Fundraiser held to replace Chesterfield athlete's wheelchair

CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) -

A fundraiser was held Sunday to benefit a Chesterfield disabled athlete whose wheelchair was stolen from a shed.

Chase's story touched the heart of Kevin Kitrick, whose nephew is also a wheelchair athlete. Kitrick organized a pancake breakfast at St. Michael's Church in Glen Allen to raise between $5,000 and $10,000.

Kitrick said the show of support shows he wasn't the only one impacted by the story.

"People aren't even coming in for the breakfast. They are just coming in and dropping money in the basket after mass and saying good luck our prayers are with Chase."

Even before Kitrick helped to organize Sunday's fundraiser his nephew, Robbie, loaned his wheelchair to Chase so he could get back on the court right away.
