Church service reflects on family members killed in tragic fire

MUHLENBERG CO., KY (WFIE) -

A somber church service took place in Muhlenberg County on Sunday. It was the first one since the tragedy that killed nine members of the Watson family.

At their home church, it was a time for reflection and a time to pray for the father and daughter who survived that massive house fire Thursday morning.

The Watson family was not there physically, but they were there in spirit, all 11 of them.

It was an emotional service as family, friends, and fellow parishioners gathered together. One woman who teaches the children says that during the service, she noticed a difference.

She says she will miss seeing Reagan, Mark, and Nathaniel every week. A friend of the family says it is still hard for her to believe that the mother, Nikki, and eight of her nine children are gone.

"Nikki was such a supportive person of me and so many other women in our church. I mean she was mom to everybody and she was a friend to everybody. She was always trying to touch base with everybody and make sure everybody was doing ok all the time and be the advice giver," said Meagan Williams, a friend of Nickki's.

The two survivors, father, Chad, and daughter, Kylie, are still listed in critical but stable condition in the hospital.
