A police standoff lasting more than five hours at the Compton Grove apartment complex at Compton Road and Clovernook Avenue in Mount Healthy ended peacefully Monday afternoon.
A Mount Healthy police official told FOX19 that the suspect is in his mid 50s and is a Vietnam veteran. Police say they first received calls just after 10:45 a.m.
"It started around 10:46 this morning as a person attempting suicide," explains Officer Mark Waldeck. "Officers responded to the scene and the subject was yelling and making statements that he was armed."
Police say that the suspect also claimed he had a hostage. Authorities say he threatened to kill the hostage and shoot at police. Nearby residents were evacuated and the Hamilton County Police Association SWAT team was called.
As SWAT teams arrived on the scene, authorities say they were unsure whether the suspect was armed or if a hostage was actually involved.
Officers say chemical agents were fired into the building and SWAT teams were able to pull the suspect out of the building. The standoff came to an end just after 4 p.m.
No one was injured in the incident. Police say that a hostage was not involved.
The incident remains under investigation.
