roundabout, or traffic circle, is coming to one busy Perrysburg intersection.
City Council approved funding to build a roundabout at the intersection of
Eckel Junction Road and Carronade Drive Monday. Currently, drivers coming from
Carronade have a stop sign but drivers on Eckel Junction do not. Council members
say the difference in speed is a safety concern.
"Everybody enters the intersection slowing down and then they all
have to travel at the same speed so there's less risk of a dangerous collision
and loss of life type situation," said Councilman Tom Mackin.
The move is part of a larger project to deal
with traffic problems in the area. Council members have similar concerns about
the intersection just down Eckel Junction at Ohio 199. Eventually, council
members say they would like cut off access to 199 from Eckel Junction, creating
a cul-de-sac. Carronade Drive would then be extended to 199.
The roundabout should be completed by 2015.
Council has not yet put in place plans for the second phase of the project.
