BOWLING GREEN, OH (Toledo News Now) -

A Bowling Green woman is battling for her life and is trying to raise money for a four-legged friend to help her.

Ashley Kinstler is just 21 years old and works daily to manage her type one diabetes.

"It's very exhausting, having to make sure you basically stay alive 24-7," she said.

Kinstler says the scariest part is not knowing when she might crash.

"Your life is in your own hands, and that's really a scary thing to have to deal with, especially when I don't live at home anymore," she said.

So she's been raising money for a diabetic alert dog named Keona, who she met for the first time last week.

Keona is getting special scent-based training. Kinstler keeps samples of her high and low blood sugar levels in the freezer, and then ships them to Texas so Keona can get used to her scent.

"I've felt a little bit more at ease about my diabetes knowing that help is on the way," Kinstler said.

But that help doesn't come cheap. She needs to raise $15,000 to bring Keona home. So far, Kinstler has raised more than $9,000 toward her goal. To help bring Kinstler and Keona together, click here.
