The body of a missing 9-year-old Magnolia boy has been found in Union County, not far from where he went missing on Monday.
Union County Sheriff Mike McGough confirms 9-year-old Hank Bollen was found in the woods late Tuesday morning in Union County, less than a mile north of Shuler Rd. near the Union-Columbia county line.
That's not far from the Scotsville Deer Camp, where the boy left Monday morning armed with a single shot 22 rifle. While it was initially reported that he went squirrel hunting with family members, Sheriff McGough says he went alone.
McGough says they were called in just before dark Monday night by the Arkansas Fish & Game Commission after the boy didn't return home. Crews searched on the ground and from the air, using helicopter and searchlights to circle the area. McGough says lack of visibility due to darkness may have hampered their ability to see the 9-year-old's body during the search overnight.
It's not clear yet whether it was deputies who found the boy's body or family members, who were also involved in the search.
McGough confirms it appears the boy suffered at least one gunshot wound. Bollen's body is being sent to the crime lab in Little Rock for autopsy.
