Shirley Temple Black, passed away at 85. She had a remarkable life as a
child actress, singer, dancer and even a U. S. ambassador.
As a 6-year old in the 1930s,
Ms. Temple grabbed the country's heartstrings. She was an irrepressible
ray of sunshine warming a nation struggling with the cold reality of an
extended depression. Remarkably, Ms. Temple's movies still get TV
time. Whenever I see her dancing or singing, I think of my own mom.
She loved those movies. I guess they provided escapist moments for a
generation that knew true hardship and deprivation.
