TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Plans have been submitted to the Toledo Planning Commission for zoning approval of a $5 million renovation at the Parqwood Apartments in the Old West End.

The three-story, 136-unit senior housing complex dates back to the 1940s. The facility is set to undergo some major upgrades, including electrical and elevator improvements. Common gathering areas will be improved and expanded, energy efficient efforts will be made, and accessibility issues will be addressed, such as making kitchen and bathroom space more comfortable and user-friendly for seniors living there.

LMHA Deputy Executive Director Ivory Mathews says it's all about giving the facility some "TLC."

"These major types of renovation will not only increase the longevity of the building from a structural standpoint, but it will also give our tenants an opportunity to live in a building where they have nicer amenities," said Mathews.

LMHA is in the process of selecting a contractor for the project. Construction is expected to begin later this year.
