You can't talk about Chrys Peterson without talking about Race for the Cure.

"We all know that Chrys has very many causes that she's passionate about, but I believe that her greatest commitment and her greatest impact has been with our organization – Susan G. Komen of Northwest Ohio," said Executive Director Mary Westphal.

For 20 years, Chrys has served as the honorary chairwoman of the Northwest Ohio Komen Race for the Cure event, helping to raise millions of dollars to fight breast cancer. Chrys has helped the race grow from 600 racers to more than 20,000 taking part in the largest participatory event in northwest Ohio.

That first race raised about $12,000. Now, they regularly eclipse the $1 million mark.

But the numbers are only one part. The faces and names of those the money goes to help is what really matters.

"To see the ‘In memory of…' – that's hard," said a previous runner. "It's hard to see but there are people that are out there that are not forgetting them, that love them."

In her 20th year involved with Komen, Chrys' responsibilities expanded. She served as the emcee of Findlay's inaugural race and cheered on 3,000 runners and walkers on the path to finding a cure.
