Students get jump start on college process at Findlay fair

FINDLAY, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The economy is still struggling and jobs are tough to come by, but it was a big night for prospective college students at a huge college fair in Findlay on Monday.

There were 80 different colleges represented with information for students on how to get the college process rolling. Local high school juniors and their parents were invited and made their way between rows of tables to pick and choose information that met their needs.

Some non-traditional students were at the fair, as well. Everyone was getting a head start on where they may want to apply and learning about what majors are offered. They had a chance to talk to school representatives face to face.

The military branches were also there. And there were presentations on financial aid, scholarships, ACT test preparation and what careers will be popular in the future.

"I would say the next step would be to line up college visits at whatever schools that they would be interested in, or working with their high schools' guidance counselors to see what would be a good fit for them," said Stef Madison, admissions representative for Findlay campus of Owens Community College. "Maybe discuss different majors or careers that they are interested in."

For students closer to Toledo, the Owens campus in Perrysburg Township is holding their college preview night this Wednesday, from 6:30-8 p.m. More than 100 colleges and universities are expected to be represented there.
