New "Live Well" Gallery opening at Children's Museum of Evansville

Posted: Updated:

Starting tomorrow, the will be a new addition to the Children's Museum of Evansville's exhibits.

The museum's "Live Well Gallery" opens tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. with a focus on teaching kids how important it is to eat well, play a lot and live healthy lives. The museum hopes to teach kids about the power of personal responsibility in making healthy decision.

They teach all this through several stations in the gallery.

One of the stations is "Eat Well" where kids can prepare fresh food in the Rainbow Bistro, plant and harvest veggies and fruits, and sell them in the Fresh Produce Farm stand. They can also "Play Well" on a giant metal carrot called the Carrot Climber. It's a new twist on the old schoolyard jungle gym and they hope it will teach kids that being active can be fun.

The WBWL "Be Well TV" studio gives kids a chance to broadcast their own health news report from six different scenes.

Families with museum memberships can check out the exhibit today from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., ahead of tomorrow's grand opening at a sneak peek session.

Then the museum will be open to everyone beginning at the 9:30 a.m. ribbon cutting ceremony where Mayor Lloyd Winnecke will lead kids in a group exercise.

The healthy lifestyle teaching continues after the ceremony. Play guides will hold exercise challenges throughout the day on Friday and at 10 a.m. Saturday, the Youth Yoga School will hold a just-for-kids yoga class.

Then, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. there will be a kids career fair, with professionals working in health-related industries talking to kids about their jobs. This will include a doctor, farmer and restaurant owner.

This is the first new gallery the museum has opened in more than seven years. The Live Well gallery will be open during regular museum hours.
