Preparation is under way for new development in Sylvania Township. Shoppers will soon have new stores to choose from at the Franklin Place shopping center on Monroe Street.
A Marshalls and HomeGoods joint center will be one of the new stores in that shopping center. A new structure will be built to house at least two new shops. Developers say they're working on finalizing a few more retailers, as well.
Developers say this is a prime location and believe the stores will get a lot of traffic. Those shopping in the area Thursday seem to agree.
"I think that's good. I like shopping in places like that, and TJ Max and discount stores like that, so that's good. And I shop in this plaza a lot, even though I'm from Oregon," said Beth Giller.
"I think it's a great idea, for the area especially. Any time you can offer more opportunities for the community to purchase stuff and then keep money in the region is a good thing," said Jeff Weisner.
According to the developers, construction will begin as soon as weather allows. They hope to have the structure built by the fall, letting retailers move in shortly after.
