OAK HARBOR, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Bald eagles are nesting and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources is trying to make sure the process is successful.

"Do not enter" signs are posted around portions of the Magee Marsh Wildlife Area to ensure the eagle nesting process is not disturbed.

To protect the birds and nests, one loop of the walking trail and a portion of the beach parking lot have been closed in order to eliminate nearby human activity, as well as provide the birds with a better chance of nesting success.

"It's important. We want to provide a safe area where these birds can nest. They are still federally protected, and we are obligated through that federal act to minimize the disturbance around the nest," said Patrick Baranowski with the Division of Wildlife.

Bald eagle eggs take just over a month to hatch and the pair along the walking trail has not laid eggs yet. Both nests will be monitored to determine when the trail and parking lot will be reopened to the public.
