The halftime ceremony was better than the game. The Cavaliers retired the number 11 in honor of Zydrunas Ilgauskus at the half, then went out and lost to New York 107-97 in front of an energized crowd.
During a lengthy ceremony, Ilgauskus received a framed jersey, made a speech, heard from others in the Cavs organization then watched as his number 11 was raised into the rafters. He is the seventh player in team history to receive that honor. Ilgauskus is the franchise all-time leader in games played, offensive rebounds, rebounds and blocked shots.
LeBron James was in attendance for the ceremony, but stayed in the background for the most part. He was not featured in the ceremony and he did not speak during it.
The Cavs game against the Knicks was not as exciting. They were dumped 107-97 in front of a crowd primed for excitement. After being down by eight at the half, the team rallied in the third quarter, seemingly energized by the halftime activities. The Cavs held a three point lead early in the fourth before collapsing. New York went on 14-1 rally to take command of the game again, this time for good.
Kyrie Irving scored a game-high 30 points, Carmelo Anthony lead the Knicks with 26.
