(Toledo News Now) -

Three young men lost their lives in a shooting at a local bar in Fremont. Community members are still trying to piece together why this senseless violence even occurred.

Police have identified the victims as Jose "Andy" Chavez, 26, an off-duty Elmore police officer celebrating his recent birthday at the bar, Daniel Ramirez, 25, also a patron of the bar who was celebrating with Chavez, and Ramiro Sanchez, 28, who was the bartender.

Police say shots rang out around 1:30 a.m. Sunday at the Last Call Bar on West State Street. According to witnesses, the shooting started after an argument inside the bar. Igmidio Mista, 33, is accused of fatally shooting the three men was taken into custody Monday.

Officer José Chavez, better known as "Andy" among friends, worked at the Elmore Police Department for two years.

"Hard working, kind, young man. He always wanted to live, work, and raise his family in a small town atmosphere," said Sergeant Jeffrey Harrison of the Elmore Police Department.

"Losing an officer like that is almost like losing a relative. It's been rather tough on us," said Chief George Hayes.

Today as flags fly at half staff outside the department, families all across the small town mourn the loss of a community leader.

"So many of the young men here know him as 'Coach Chavez,'" said Linda Bringman, Superintendent at Woodmore School District.

Chavez spent his free time as a volunteer coach for the boy's soccer team at Woodmore High. Grief counselors and local pastors were on hand there and at Woodmore Elementary School where Chavez's 6-year-old daughter is a first grader.

Friends and family also honored Ramiro Sanchez, a bouncer and part time bartender with a passion for music and graphic design.

"That kid was a beautiful person. Very respectful, would do anything for you. He was a real good kid," said Danny Sanchez, uncle of Ramiro Sanchez.

"He was my best friend. Aside from my spouse, he was my best friend," said Christopher Sanchez, brother of Ramiro Sanchez.

Sanchez had just opened up his own design shop right next to the bar.

His brother says he says he was independent, strong, and most of all had a good heart.

"He would give you anything. He would give you the shirt off his back. If he didn't have a shirt on, he would give you his heart, he would give you an open ear. I mean, if he didn't have what you wanted, he would find something to make you feel better to give you," said Christopher Sanchez.

The third victim, Daniel Ramirez, served in the army and was out celebrating the 28th birthday of Officer Chavez.

It will take time to heal the wounds of everyone affected by this tragedy.

"Stupid people that don't have no purpose for life doing stupid things like this. The only thing is, it impacts everybody, including the community," said Danny Sanchez.

A candlelight vigil took place by the bar around noon on Monday. Another is planned for Monday night at 8:00 p.m. hosted by the family of Ramiro Sanchez for all three victims.
