CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

Meteorologist Jeff Tanchak is forecasting a major winter storm to blow through northeast Ohio Wednesday.

It's expected to begin Tuesday night with a light rain then change over to snow Wednesday morning around 8 a.m.

The Ohio Department of Transportation is gearing up for the weather event.

Since it will begin as rain, ODOT says crews will not be pre-treating roads.

District 12 will be fully staffed with 80 crews in Cuyahoga, Lake and Geauga counties starting at 10 p.m. this evening.

ODOT says crews will continue to work around-the-clock plowing and salting roadways until this event ends.

Precipitation is predicted to change from rain to snow during the morning rush hour. Drivers should expect that conditions will change mile by mile and minute by minute during their Wednesday morning commute.

The snow is expected to continue throughout the day Wednesday, and could also impact the evening rush hour.
