CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

The Browns made double-barrelled cuts at the quarterback position on Thursday. After only two seasons with the team, Brandon Weeden was released. Minutes later the same fate was given to Jason Campbell.

Regarding Weeden, Browns General Manager Ray Farmer released the following statement-

"First and foremost, the Browns would like to thank Brandon and his agent for being true professionals. The circumstances in which he found himself were not easy for him or the team. After discussions with Brandon and his agent, we'd like to give him the ability to pursue other opportunities."

Weeden played in only eight games for the Browns last year, he threw nine touchdown passes to go with nine interceptions, his passer rating was 70. He was picked in the first round of the 2012 draft by the Tom Heckert lead front office.

Brian Hoyer and Alex Tanney are the only two quarterbacks left of the roster. Hoyer is the only one of the two with any chance of earning the starting job. The team will likely draft a quarterback, they could also seek one in free agency.
