TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The Ohio legislature on Wednesday passed a measure that would allow Ohio schools to earn up to 4 extra calamity days because of the harsh winter weather.

For many districts in the area, including Toledo Public Schools, Thursday was the second day in a row they canceled school, burning half of the new days allowed.

"We are happy that the state finally did get something approved. We will now be looking to determine what our plans will be going forward. We are now at day 14 and we're glad they've made a decision in Columbus and we can move forward," said Executive Transformational Leader of Curriculum Jim Gault.

Sylvania Schools is in a similar situation. The district is at 13 snow days for the High School and Junior High and 14 for elementary schools. Leaders say they are working out the details of a plan to make up days and will announce it as soon as possible.
