FREMONT, OH (Press Release) -

It's been one week since three men were murdered in a Fremont bar.

The city continues to heal.

Sunday night, the Fremont Ministry Association held a memorial service honoring the victims.

"This evening we are taking some time to gather as a community and we ask God for healing and forgiveness," said Rev. Mike Zacharias from the pulpit of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

And that's needed after what some here describe as a shocking, disturbing crime.

Worshippers remain stunned something like this could happen in Fremont.

"They're like family. Everybody knows everybody around here. It's a small town," said Beatrice Alonzo.

The slayings happened at the Last Call Bar last Sunday in Fremont.

Killed were off-duty Elmore Police Officer Jose Andy Chavez, his cousin Daniel Ramirez and bartender Ramiro Sanchez.

Charged with their murders is Igmido Mista.

It's hoped the memorial service will help all in Fremont who are suffering.

"We come together as a family of Christians. We have a service like this. We support the families and offer them our prayers and meet with them as they need it," said Rev. Jody Rice of Grace Lutheran Church.

Yet another example of how the worst in times can bring out the best in people.
