(Toledo News Now) -

Two sisters from Willard are upset with a company responsible for making their father's headstone, after they say they were promised the headstone would be completed last fall, but it never happened.

"He was the love of our lives. He was our best friend," said Michelle Kimberlin.

On Jan. 5, 2013, Michelle Kimberlin and her sister, Sheila, lost their 71-year-old father, Thurman Chaffins, to lung cancer.

"You would ask him for anything and he would bend over backwards to do it for you," said Michelle.

As if the grief wasn't enough, the sisters have been in an uphill battle to get a headstone placed on their father's grave at Greenlawn Cemetery in Plymouth, OH.

"As of right now, we have nothing," said Michelle.

Except for a block of cement and a green stake with Thurman's name on it.

National Memorial Stone Company in Toledo is in charge of making their father's headstone, and the sisters say this company is not holding up its end of the bargain.

"I just can't believe it. How would they feel if it was their parents?" said Michelle.

Michelle and Sheila both paid National Memorial - in full - close to $1700 for the headstone last July. (The sisters had to wait until this time, due to family issues.)

After the check cleared, Michelle and Sheila say the owner, Richard Daly, promised the headstone would be completed by mid-September with the custom markings they requested.

When they didn't see the headstone in September, the sisters did what anyone would do: Call the company.

The excuses, they say, were like a laundry list.

"It's been four weeks I've called and every time: 'It's this Saturday. This Saturday. Oh, it's not in yet. It'll be in this Saturday, I promise,'" said Michelle.

Fed up with the situation, Sheila decided to give Call 11 For Action a try.

On Tuesday, Brandon Jones paid a visit to the company to try to find Richard Daly. A man who didn't want to identify himself said Richard wasn't there, but when Michelle and Sheila's names were mentioned, he knew exactly about their situation. In fact, he stated the headstone was already at the cemetery!

But Michelle and Sheila say they never received a call from the company about it.

Shortly after the conversation with the unknown man, Sheila e-mailed a photo of her father's headstone at his final resting place.

Here are some things to consider if you have the daunting task of choosing a headstone to memorialize the memory of a loved one:

#1 - Check the cemetery rules

#2 - Confirm installation

#3 - Consider the headstone type

Also, it's important to know that some cemeteries only place headstones on graves in the spring and fall.

Editor's note here: After WTOL aired this Call 11 For Action Story, we got this message on our Facebook page:

"Hi! You did the story about the Kimberlin family fighting with the monument company to get a stone. I wanted to personally thank you and the family. We've been dealing with that company since 2011 to get my father's stone replaced after they messed the date of death on it. I believe it was them coming forward and your story that finally gave the company the urgency to get our stone corrected and put up cause we just got our corrected stone put up today! Thank you so very much for what you guys did!! - Rachel Benson"
