TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Toledo city council met today for its last budget hearing. Council members gave their input on specific amendments they want to make to the mayor's budget.

Among items discussed was the fact that the Toledo Police Athletic League would manage city pools this summer. It had been in doubt whether the city would open pools before PAL stepped in.

Council President Paula Hicks-Hudson says another change would include providing more financial support to homeless shelters, care-net and other recreation activities.

Hicks-Hudson says it's important to fund these social services.

"Summer recreation, whether its tennis or pools to be open, it's a critical issue for us. The homeless shelters, they've been cut. We have, we need to begin to look at ways to help bolster those funding losses they've incurred," said Hicks-Hudson.

Council will meet again on Tuesday to begin the process of voting on the budget, which has to be passed by March 31.
