ELYRIA, OH (WOIO) -

An Avon man arrested in connection with Monday's armed robbery of Dollar Bank in Elyria has been identified as Brett L. Benson, 40, according to a news release from the Elyria Police Department.

Cops were called to 1500 N. West River Road just after 1:00 p.m. Witnesses told them the suspect approached the teller and handed her a note indicating the bank was being robbed.

He had a hood pulled down tightly around his face and he got away with an undisclosed amount of cash.

After he left, police received another call about a suspicious man, who matched the description of the robber, walking on Midway Blvd. Police caught up with him on 49 Street near Moran. He also had a large amount of cash stuffed in his pants pocket.

Police also believe Benson is the same person responsible for robbing Talmer Bank & Trust on March 19, 2014 and he called in a bomb threat to Elyria high School on Sunday, March 19, 2014.

Benson has been charged with two counts of aggravated robbery and one count of inducing panic. He is being held in the Lorain County Jail with no bond.
