Final stage of Northwood railroad work-around set to begin

NORTHWOOD, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The final stage of a plan to stop drivers from getting stuck by trains in the city of Northwood will begin on April 1. On that day, the intersection of Whales Road and Drouillard Road will be shut down.

A new roadway will steer traffic away from the tracks. Two overpasses have also been built to help drivers avoid what has come to be known as "train ally."

Police say it will help with response times.

"It's nice not being blocked like the other ones were because they were blocked quite a bit and we had to go up through Oregon or through the village of Walbridge to get into the other district. So this has been a blessing," said Northwood Police Chief Thomas Cairl.

Construction should be completed sometime in June.
