Council does not pass budget, approves extra $3.9 million for snow and ice

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Toledo City Council has approved a measure giving the division of Streets, Bridges and Harbor an extra $3.9 million to deal with snow and ice on Tuesday, but did not pass a city budget.

The Streets, Bridges and Harbor money will help the department cover the rest of this winter, and the first part of next winter.  The record-breaking snow and cold has burned through the department's regular budget.

Council did not pass a city budget on Tuesday. The Collins administration says it will take a look at the numbers and present another budget next week.

At least one point of contention between council and the administration was funding for homeless shelters. Some on council wanted $140,000 more funding for shelters than the mayor's budget provided.
