(WMC-TV) - With Harrah's Tunica set for closure, you can bet Southland Park has a reaction, but it is not necessarily the one you might expect.

"First, it was surprising, and then basically, I'm kind of sad because of the effect on the workforce," Southland Park Gaming and Racing President and General Manager Troy Keeping said. "If you have 1,300 people that are going to be out of work it's never good, even if it's a competitor."

Southland is planning a job fair specifically designed to assist and recruit only current Harrah's employees.

"If we can help them in the relocation of potential employers we always have some open positions, a lot of front line, some supervisory positions. So any way we can help we want to," said Keeping.

Edgy ad campaigns, a 41,000 square-foot expansion, and stiff competition with the other eight Tunica casinos all remain the same in West Memphis. But Harrah's closure is normal, a sign of the times, Keeping said, ever since the gaming industry began expanding to other parts of the country from which this market used to pull customers.

"The pie has gotten smaller," Keeping said. "So we're all competing for a piece of a smaller pie and it's really just, it's happening across the country."

Harrah's closes June 2.
