MAUMEE, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The long winter season is finally over and spring is officially here, but the city of Maumee is already gearing up for next winter.

Maumee's finance committee approved a request by service director Joe Camp to purchase 5,000 tons of salt for the 2014-2015 winter season. The city used a little over 4,000 tons of salt this year.

Now the city has about 100 tons left, which was borrowed from the Ohio Department of Transportation. It will need to be returned if unused.

The city will join with ODOT to receive bids for the salt for next year. 1,000 tons will be delivered this summer, and an additional 4,000 tons will be delivered in the winter.

The city is also looking to install a new salt dome this summer. It would cost a total of $140,000. Bids for the salt dome have not yet taken place. According to city officials they will receive bids by salt suppliers by the end of May.
