FINDLAY, OH (Toledo News Now) -

It's been the talk of the town in Findlay for the last few weeks, and now the proposal to make Main Street more pedestrian friendly could soon begin.

On Tuesday, city council will vote on allowing the city to apply for up to $2 million in Ohio Department of Transportation grant money through the transportation alternatives program.

The money would go toward pedestrian improvements like bumpouts at crossings, mid crossing pedestrian refuge islands, a 2-way bike path on Corey Street and alley improvements.

At the last public meeting, it was decided that the single lane restrictions and reverse angle parking would be taken off of the plan, but those decisions still have not been finalized.

Until these initial pedestrian upgrades are made, the plan as a whole is still up in the air.

"The beauty of this project is that the plan is extremely flexible. So, right now the main focus is what we're applying to ODOT for, and that's grant funding to help increase our pedestrian safety," said Main Street Findlay Coordinator Maria Reza.

If approved by city council, the deadline to apply for the ODOT grant is May 4.
