(Toledo News Now) -

This year the Toledo Area Humane Society is celebrating 130 years as one of the oldest humane societies in the U.S. To keep adoptions going, the shelter is hosting two local events in April and May.

The TAHS will host "Yappy Hour" April 6 as part of the kickoff for "Bark in the Park." The event will take place at Bar 145 on Monroe Street in west Toledo from 6-9 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the door or $5 with a pet food item.

Many dogs will be up for adoption, including Lovely, a shy 2-year-old pitbull mix, who went through the shelter's cruelty department after being picked up in a hoarding situation.

April is Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Month. Anyone who adopts a pet from the cruelty department will get a $25 gift card to The Andersons. Stop by the shelter any time during the week or call 419-891-0705.

On May 18, the TAHS will host "Bark in the Park," which includes a short walk around Arrowhead Park in Maumee. Registration is at 10 a.m. and the walk is scheduled to start at 11 a.m.
