(WMC-TV) – Do you think you could go 30 days without a car? If you are up to the challenge -- now is the time to give it a shot.
The organizers who are putting together the Memphis Car-Free Challenge wants to build support for programs and projects that make it easier for people in the city to use alternate modes of transportation; the best way to do so is to use what we have available to us and be a good role model by using greener forms of transportation.
The Memphis "car-free challenge" starts April 1. To succeed in the challenge, you do not have to go completely without a car, but the goal is to never drive a car by yourself. Organizers encourage participants to walk, bike, carpool, take a taxi, or ride the bus to work. The options are endless, how creative can you get?
"We know there are still challenges ahead for making Memphis a true city with multiple modes of efficient transportation, but we also recognize that we've come a long way during the past couple of years," said organizers on the Memphis Car-Free Challenge website. "Now is the time to build support for programs and projects that enhance our ability to walk, bicycle, or use public transportation. The best way for all residents to show their support is to use what we have, provide feedback on how it worked out for you, and to be a role model for your neighbors and friends."
Car-Free Memphis wants you to share your experience on its Facebook page throughout the month or on Twitter using the hashtag #carfreememphis. Weekly prize drawings will be made during the month of April.
