A man police say shot a non-violent German
shepherd in east Toledo and his cousin were indicted on multiple charges
Police say Marcus Crawford shot the stray dog
on March 24. He was indicted on weapons
charges Thursday, but is still at large. Marcus Crawford's cousin, Gary
Crawford, was indicted on intimidation and obstructing justice charges
Thursday, but is in police custody.
The German shepherd, who has been named June,
had to have her right front leg amputated as a result of the shooting. Since
that surgery, she has been in the care of Planned Pethood.
"She comes in with a gunshot wound to the dog
warden and she ends up having her leg amputated because of that and now she's
adapting to walking on three legs," said Nikki Morey with Planned Pethod.
At home with a loving
foster family now, June is doing just fine. Planned Pethood leaders say they
believe she was a stray, and now she's recovering both socially and physically.
"When her fosters come
home they're getting the happy tail and she's very enthusiastic to see them and
she's getting used to walking on three legs," said Morey.
June's foster family says they're
hoping she gains enough strength in her remaining front leg to not need any
kind of sling or wheel to help her walk. Although she tires quickly, less than
a week after surgery June is already up and moving around.
