Butler County Coroner Dr. Lisa Mannix said Friday that she's seen a dramatic increase in the number of deaths related to drug overdoses.
Of the 114 cases that her office investigated in the first quarter of this year, 50 were attributed to drug overdoses.
That's a 139 percent increase over the same time in 2013.
Of the 50 cases:
*11 involved heroin
*10 involved heroin combined with fentanyl
*eight involved fentanyl combined with other drugs.
The remaining cases involved other drugs or are awaiting final toxicology confirmation, the coroner's office said.
