At Northern Kentucky University on Saturday, it's a day for community service.
NKU's Scripps Howard Center for Civic Engagement is hosting its 2014 Spring into Service.
The university said this annual community service project brings students, faculty, staff and community members together to volunteer on projects and improvements in and around Highland Heights.
This year's volunteer opportunities range from sprucing up a historic cemetery to planting crops at the gardens of Giving Fields, a favorite project of past participants. Giving Fields is an organization that harvests fresh produce to benefit local food pantries.
Sign-in begins at 8:30 a.m. on NKU's campus. Students, faculty, alumni, staff and members of the community will gather before dispersing to provide service to local sites. At noon, volunteers are invited to return to NKU for a free celebratory lunch, games and raffles.
