SYLVANIA, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Allergy season is kicking into high gear and it's creating a dangerous problem for people with asthma.

This week's pollen counts go sky high, starting allergy season off with a bang.

Experts say the late winter has created a build-up of tree pollen, releasing it into the air all at once. This creates high pollen counts and major hazards that could land you in the hospital.

"That causes swelling of the airways, throats, nasal passageways. That's what, you know, kicks it all off," said Kathe Cooper, RN, northwest Ohio ENT.

While it looks beautiful outside, the easiest way to avoid your triggers is to stay inside.

If you must venture out for yard work, do it in the morning between 4 and 10 a.m. That's your best bet to finish what you need to do without using your inhaler.
