(WMC-TV) - A short search ensued in a Whitehaven community when a man repossessing a car took off with 4-year-old Kevin Leverson inside it.
Police initially responded to reports that a Toyota Corolla was stolen from 467 Delta Road around 7:30 p.m Friday. Roughly an hour later, police found Kevin unharmed at Coopers Auto Sales, 5.4 miles away from the house.
Jerrica Leverson told WMC Action News 5's Jason Miles that her son was sleeping in the backseat of his grandmother's car when it was repossessed. His grandmother could not carry him, and someone was about to get him out of the car.
But the repo man already started towing.
"You should have checked the car. If you saw the child in the car, come bring him to the door and let us know you're fixing to pull the car, but they didn't do none of that," said Leverson. "They just snuck in the yard and took the car, and my child was in the car."
Police and family suspected the car would end up at the used car dealership. The manager said it was an accident.
No charges are expected.
