SYLVANIA, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Monday, April 21 was the official groundbreaking ceremony for HCR ManorCare family's Heartland at ProMedica. The facility will be used to house short-term patients transitioning between the hospital and home.

"I do think that you need more, if it is a rehab type facility, that sort of thing is necessary around the area. I would prefer to be close to home," said Sylvania resident Roberta Snyader.

The building will be 65,000 feet in size. The new building will be replacing the Lake Park rehabilitation facility.

"The staff at Lake Park really need to be commended for the many, many years of service and we will also be transitioning to the new HCR facility here in the future," said Chief Medical Officer Lee Hammerling.

The new facility will include 24-hour nursing care with more than 120 beds. A spokesperson said they hope to open their doors in the summer of 2015 if the weather cooperates.
